Tasks
Create, assign, and track maintenance, compliance, and operational tasks across your labs.
Lab Belay's task system handles the ongoing work of running a lab, from one-off to-do items to complex recurring compliance schedules. Tasks can be assigned to team members, linked to specific equipment or chemicals, and tracked through to completion.
Types of tasks
Standard tasks are one-time work items. Use them for anything that needs to get done and tracked: ordering supplies, repairing equipment, reviewing a safety protocol, or completing an inspection.
Recurring tasks repeat on a schedule defined by a frequency in days and a set of eligible weekdays. Once set up, Lab Belay automatically creates new task instances at the right time and notifies the assigned person. See Recurring Tasks for full details.
Creating a task
From the Tasks section, click the blue + icon on the right and select New Task. Fill in:
- Subject — a short, clear name for the task.
- Description — optional detail, checklist items, or instructions
- Due date — when it needs to be completed.
- Assignee — the team member responsible
- Priority — normal, important, or critical.
- Tags — optionally link the task to a specific lab, location, piece of equipment, or bench.
- Make Recurring - This checkbox will make the task recurring. Daily, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, and custom frequencies are allowed. Additionally, you can select days to allow/disallow for scheduling the task.
Then click Create Task in the upper right of the New Task menu to create it (or Cancel to cancel).
